Krishna Janm Katha

According to Skanda Purana, it is a matter of Dwapar Yuga. Then there was a great king named Ugrasen in Mathura. But being straightforward by nature, his son Kansa usurped his kingdom and himself became the king of Mathura. Kansa had a sister, whose name was Devaki. Kansa loved him very much. When Devaki’s marriage was fixed with Vasudev, after the marriage was over, Kansa himself drove the chariot to drop her sister at her in-laws’ place.

When he was going to drop off his sister, there was a revelation that the eighth child of Devaki and Vasudev would be the cause of Kansa’s death. On hearing this, Kansa got angry and as he proceeded to kill Devaki and Vasudev, Vasudev asked him not to harm Devaki. He himself will hand over Devaki’s eighth child to Kansa. After this, instead of killing Vasudev and Devaki, Kansa imprisoned them.

Devaki gave birth to seven children in the prison itself and Kansa killed all of them one by one. After this, as soon as Devaki became pregnant again, Kansa tightened the prison guard. Then Kanhaiya was born in Rohini Nakshatra on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Only then Shri Vishnu appeared to Vasudev and said that he himself was born as his son.

He also said that Vasudev ji should drop him at his friend Nandababa’s house in Vrindavan and bring the girl who was born from Yashoda ji’s womb to the prison. The girl child born from Yashoda ji’s womb was none other than Maya herself. After hearing all this, Vasudev ji did the same. According to Skanda Purana, when Kansa came to know about Devaki’s eighth child, he reached the prison.

There he saw that the eighth child was a girl, yet when he started throwing her on the ground, the illusional girl reached the sky and said that nothing will happen if you kill me, you fool. Your time has already reached Vrindavan and it will end you very soon. After this, Kansa traced the newborns born in Vrindavan.

When Yashoda’s Lala was found out, several attempts were made to kill him. Many demons were also sent, but no one was able to straighten the hair of that child, so Kansa realized that Nandbaba’s child is the eighth child of Vasudev-Devki. Krishna killed Kansa in his youth. In this way whoever reads or listens to this story, all his sins are destroyed.
